Drag existing sequence with all your clips onto the timeline of the new sequence; this will now act as one entire “clip”.

Video effects > desaturate.

We identified the following clips that needed altering (brightness and contrast)

* The watch scene

* Wake up call

We adjusted these via the levels toolbar.

to finalise the video it was the rendered and burnt to DVD.

Throughout the whole of this module, I learned many new technical skills using Final Cut Pro and when looking through a camera lens that I can use for the future. All the skills I have developed through making short music videos and using transitions effectively are all skills I can transfer to the final video. These first few weeks were challenging I found, as I have never done anything like this before, which at the end of the day, was why I wanted to do this elective. I feel my technical skills have improved profusely now, regarding how to edit on Final Cut, camera angles and composition of a photograph, still or moving. I found this elective really interesting and it was a good experience to try something I have never done before.

In my group, there were four of us, all with different ideas of what we wanted to do. It took us a while to finally come up with a strong storyboard and idea, but our final idea was something we all felt passionate and excited about. Our final idea was to create a silent, short thriller. We all liked the idea of working with trying to incorporate all the techniques we had learnt, for example panning and using the zoom effectively. Although we felt comfortable with using sound, we were more interested in making a silent movie and adding in music to go along with it.

Other silent films, such as Nosferatu, influenced our film. We wanted to create something atmospheric and visually interesting to watch. We shot our film at night to create the “thrilling” style and experience. We used ourselves as actors for our film, as this was easier. We also shot at one of our houses, as this was more suitable and it allowed us to have the power of knowing the area well for the shots we could use. As we were filming I was taking still photographs to ‘set the scene’ as it were, which I could show on my blog.

Video elective was really insightful for me, as I will be able to take on the experiences I have learnt with me in the future. I have discovered how to work well within a group and how to compromise. There were troubles with managing kit and when we were all available to shoot. But we overcame this problem and managed to shoot using two cameras and we shot over two days when we were all available. When it came to editing and keeping the blog updated, it became more of an individual task, which was then reblogged by others. A lot of hours and hard work have been involved with our film, but it was all definitely worth it.

Rush #2

This rush includes footage filmed on the 550DSLR.

It is important that we match up the footage from the XDCAM and this camera for a successful edit.

Rush #1

This rush includes our footage filmed on the Sony XDCam. It was important for us to create this rush of selected successful clips in order to begin to understand how we wanted to sequence our video. It also meant that we were able to try and consider where we wanted to drop in our graphics as queue cards to our audience.
